Tis the Season (Spring, that is)

Some may mark Spring's arrival with the warmth of the sun or the blooming tulips.  In my line of work, it is more defined by all the great EVENTS!  It certainly tis the season.  Lately there have been a whilwind of appearances (hee-hee, as if) and events for Team Heimer...

Hi, have you met my friend John Glenn?  That's right the husband and I enjoyed an evening and dinner with the former Senator and Astronaut legend.  I was very impressed with my Father in Law's vintage button from a celebration event he attended in 1962 when Senator Glenn returned from his first orbit around the earth.  Our accessory was quite the conversation piece!

The legendary Tiki Bar Opening at Soloman's Island Pier is THE place to see and be seen! Live streaming video of the event, a crowd of over 10,000, police baracades, and rumored appearances by "the situation" I was not going to miss the opening again this year. I made a last minute decision and left work a little early on Friday to head over the bridge to the premier event of the season!  You can see from these shots that I was in Friday casual work wear, instead of my "clubbin' clothes" (do I still really have any of those? haha)

The 16th Annual Hospice Run is a milestone spring-time event in our area.  The event typically draws a crowd of more than a thousand energetic participants and this is the first 5k that I have actually participated in with both kids and stroller in tow.  Needless to say, I was a walker...though I am confused about the "fun" in walk.  With hurricane-force winds, freezing cold rain, and a stroller packed with enough gear for 10 kids, let's just say I will not be doing that again.  But. We. Did. Finish.  In under an hour, in the rain, with our gear, and with only one in tears (that was mommy).  Maybe the Mai Tai's the night before had something to do with it?

Insert 9 Year Old Overnight Birthday Party here. 12 third graders, 4 adults, and one heck of a thunder storm kept the boys indoors (despite our all-stars sports party).  Our Referee and Coach (a.k.a dad) kept the party going with Wii Sports Home Run Derby and Xbox Kinect, in our downstairs basement.  The next morning was sunny and warm and we commenced the water balloon fight before breakfast!

Sunday was the first truly warm Spring day and we were eager to get out of the house (I just couldn't stay inside cleaning on such a gorgeous day...despite the mess of the all-nighter). We enjoyed the sites and learning adventures of Earth Day on the square featuring kayaking on the wharf in Leonardtown. We made our first plant purchase of the season, and learned about wind energy, resource conservation, where free range organic eggs are "made".

Worth Sharing

One of the great things about being woman is the sisterhood of girlfriends.  There is a certain obligation to share new fab finds with the other women especially when they can improve the quality of life, save time or money, or make like a little easier.  Here are a few that I have been enjoying lately that I just had to share with you, my girlfriends!

malbec_argentina_221. Wine in a Box
No, seriously!  I can be a bit of a wine snob, but $20 on a bottle of wine a few times a week can add up right?  This sweet gem was given the quality nod by Wine Enthusiast magazine and has won a ton of awards.  Did I mention that is cost around $20 and equals 4 bottles of wine, it stays fresh much longer, and the black box is also very "green"!

Li'l DaVinci Art Frame Small2. Lil DaVinci Art Frames
These are such a cute and clever way to showcase your child art.  There is so much of it, and while I want to keep every single doodle they create, my organizational skills just are not up to the challenge.  These keep them in a handy place and keep the front of the fridge a little less cluttered.

3. Current handbag obsession
The Birkin bag is not a practical purchase for me budget. So being the shopper that I am, I've found the perfect birkin-inspired substitution that I might just love even more.  That's right, even more!  The Michael Kors large Hamiltion bag is my favorite bag this season!  I just love the shape and the gorgeous leather and of course the color reminds me that summer is just around the corner!

Blue Jean

Don't the perfect pair of blue jeans make you feel all warm and cozy inside?  My sister's name is LuJean, and growing up we sometimes called her Blue Jean, and would 'jam-out' to the song "Blue Jean, baby queen, prettiest girl I ever seen", maybe that's why blue jeans makes my heart smile.

I have such wonderful childhood memories with my one and only, baby sister.  We grew up in our blue jeans. Riding horses, exploring my parent's sprawling cattle ranch, playing pretend and riding 4-wheelers for hours and hours.  Just her and, I on an adventure that no one else knew about.  She and I were inseparable and have been best friends our whole lives. We are both 'grown ups' now and still love our blue jeans on the weekends, sharing secrets, giggling in our secret language, and supporting each others' dreams like no one else can.

I thought of my sister when I bought this adorable denim dress! Besides denim being ultra comfy and versatile, I love this trend because, let's face it - I can't get enough of my Blue Jean.

Dane is the youngest of my two boys.  Now I get to watch them make memories. There is nothing sweeter than watching them play outside or explore the woods together, sharing their special bond as brothers their lifetime adventure.

I O U

Dear little blog,
I enjoy our time together very much. I apologize that you are often the victim of my reprioritizing during an especially busy week. I miss you when I am away. I miss the friends that we share sidebars with and the fun interaction from those who often enjoy visting with you. I hope you understand that while inconcistent, I will always come back for our precious quality time :-)

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Inspired by on of my favorite blogs The Daybook by Sydney and her adorable young style, I thought I would give this Thursday trick a try.

Awkward
  • Running into an ex-employee from the Nanny service we use, at the grocery store
  • Walking into silence in the office bathroom and recognizing the shoes in the next stall
  • Stopping the garage door like gate at the post office begging for one stamp to meet
  • Forgetting the preschool administrator's name (again).
  • Attempting to use my Starbuck's coffee bag for a free coffee at Starbucks, only to learn it doesn't cover my usual skinny cafe latte - card swipe for under $4
  • The fact that I originally spelled "awkward" wrong in my original blog post!

Awesome
  • Sending off my rsvp for dinner with Senator John Glenn (thank you post lady!)
  • A beautiful family portrait by my favorite 4-year old artist
  • The graphic illustration above of Yours Truly by a talented local graphic artist
  • A totally random love poem my hubby texted my today at 11:11 am
  • My family landing in the Cayman Islands today to celebrate my Sis' White Coat Ceremony

Sunny So Cal

One of the perks of being an event planner is the wonderful destinations I have the opportunity to visit.  Last week we hosted an event to showcase our IT system in beautiful San Diego. We had a very successful event and enjoyed some gorgeous weather and food!

I enjoyed a very comfortable stay at the beautiful Estancia La Jolla Resort and Spa

Lovely welcome amenity from the hotel when I arrived

Mustangs and Burros is a great open air dining on property with delish tex mex cusine and ranchero ambiance

Great running trail on the campus of University of California San Diego

To quote my high school principal "great teams make great things happen" (or something like that!)

Beautiful sunset dinner at Georges Rooftop in La Jolla - if you visit La Jolla, this place is a must.

Remix Review

In the Winter of 2009, I documented my daily style journey and took part in part in the 30 for 30 remix challenge.  It was a fun journey that taught me a lot about my personal style and making your wardrobe go farther.
Here's how it worked: remix the contents of your closet by taking 30 items and remix only those items into 30, (hopefully) stylish outfits.

The whole point of the remix is to show use creativity with what is currently in your closet.  No shopping or running to the boutique for a new peice for a big meeting, or event...just me and my creativity!
The best part of remixing is working with what you’ve got. This is a challenge to help you learn to shop your closet and to shop smartly. By being well-versed in what you already have, you will become a better shopper.  Over 300 bloggers will join in this concept with fashion blogger Kendi -

Her Rules
1. Pick 30 items or less from your closet. Shoes are included, but accessories and jewelry are not.
2. Remix the 30 items into 30 different outfits.
3. Don't shop for 30 days.
-learn to shop your own closet and appreciate what is already in it!
4. Accessorize to create new looks...What counts as an accessory? Scarves, jewelry, purses, tights, etc.

Frankly I (we all?) could use a dose of grattitude and aprpeciation for what we have! This is a spiritual style journey my friends...isn't fashion so moving!?

Here is my recap:
