Pledge to eat at least one thing from a local farm every day during Buy Local week (last week in July)! This is a great campaign to support the local growers and farmers here in So.MD. and we look forward to buying the freshest in-season fruits and vegetables all summer! Click here to pledge and be counted!

Amen. Great farm stands all around Calvert and St. Mary's counties. It's wonderful to eat some fresh, great tasting food and support the local farmers. Wish everyone would support local farmers and put a large hole in pockets of companies that are manufacturing and genetically engineering our food.

well said Gwen - i try to buy organic whenever I can, but it is expensive in the grocery store. My dad is an Agriculture Inspector in FL and always cautions that it is often just marketing. I LOVE all the fresh veggie stads here. So many more seasonal veggies up here- we are in heaven - and so much more economical! thanks for your comment!!! how are the farmer's markets?

I've heard similar things about the organic foods. I don't buy most of the veggies organic at the grocery store because it's just so hard to really know where they're coming from and most experts seem to say it doesn't make a huge difference for most produce.

I do like more of the organic "processed" foods. Yogurt, cheese, milk...

Lots of people seem to LOVE the farmers market where several of the Amish men and women set up shop on the weekend up in Mechanicsville (St. Mary's). I've never been over there - a little intimidating because it's so large and gets very crowded.

I tend to frequent one of two local farm stands near me mostly for convenience since they're so close - also because I like seeing some of the same faces.
